A perfect start for Nakhon Pathom – Thai League update after round 3

Published on September 13, 2015 by   ·   No Comments

Circular 3 of the 2015 Takraw Thailand League season is done and dusted, and as always in the world of Thai sepaktakraw, there have been some big upsets.

Double defending champs Ratchaburi are struggling for form already this season, having lost 0-3 in order to both Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom before managing to win only a single point in their round three or more encounter with Phrae. This puts Ratchaburi in eighth in the league standings; the fire dragons have a lot of hard work ahead of them if they happen to be to have a chance of defending their tournament.

Meanwhile, series market leaders Nakhon Pathom have not lost just one regu so far and have therefore gained themselves the maximum available points haul of nine. The statistics show how dominant Nakhon Pahtom have already been so far, 9 from 9 regus won, and 18 sets gained while conceding just 3. Nakhon Pathom will need to be careful, however , since round 4 on the 19 th of Sept sees them facing up against Sisaket who are proving to stronger this year than many anticipated.

Speaking of Sisaket, it was they who caused Bangkok to drop from first to second in the standings right after Bangkok only narrowly defeated Sisaket 2-1. Sisaket’s epically strong first regu defeated Bangkok in 3 sets (14-21, 21-10, 21-9), just before Sisaket’s second regu came in a matter of a couple of points of defeating the mighty Bangkok (15-21, 21-19, 19-21), while it was all one-way visitors in favour of Bangkok in the third regu.

Round four of the Thai League on September 19 th will be a telling one for the top teams: Nakhon Pathom face Sisaket and will likely have to win 3-0 if they are to remain towards the top of the table, since Bangkok have what should be a relatively easy match towards Ubon Ratchatani – Bangkok will be content with nothing less than a three stage haul this Saturday. Meanwhile fourth placed Phrae are on a move and will host the third placed Chonburi – an important match up for each teams as a good result pertaining to either will allow them to stay in touch with the series leaders (although Phrae require a 3-0 win to surpass Chonburi for 3 rd place).

But that’s not all! For this weekend break is a double header, with each team having a match on the Saturday the 19 th and another on Mon the 21 st . That means this weekend is twice as important as normal, with 6 league points up for grabs for each team!
