MALAYSIA BID TO END THAI DOMINATION IN SUPERSERIES

MALACCA (4 FEBRUARY 2015): The Malaysian national group takes aim at the seemingly elusive ISTAF SuperSeries title with their starting match against China in the ISTAF SuperSeries MALAYSIA 2014/15 MELAKA which begins here tomorrow.

The ISTAF SuperSeries have always been the slippery catch for the Malaysians because the inaugural tournament in 2011/12, with some close defeats to fierce rivals Thailand, and Korea. This traditional city of Malacca may just be the perfect platform for the host’s nation to risk a strong claim on the title on the Malacca International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh

The particular Malaysian Men’s team came agonisingly close to victory at the final of ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15. In what was the closest contested match in recent memory, Malaysia held fit point but could not hold back the Thai team that would not be refused victory.

Inside a joint press conference today, the Chief Minister of Malacca, Datuk Seri Ir. Hj Idris Haron, stated he is delighted in hosting ISTAF SuperSeries MALAYSIA 2014/15 MELAKA that elite international tournament has all the ingredients of an exciting start plus flourishing finish.

“Sepaktakraw in Malaysia is a traditional sports activity which has its early beginning in Malacca centuries ago. It is always an enjoyable plus memorable moment for the people of Malacca to witness international activities here, ” he said. “I would be happy if we can web host one round of the ISTAF SuperSeries here every year. ”

“We have organised many global sporting events and I believe this encounter will go a long way in ensuring the success of ISTAF SuperSeries MALAYSIA 2014/15 MELAKA, ” he said, adding the state’s world-class facilities and organisational abilities was one factor in the International Sepaktakraw Federation’s (ISTAF) confidence in having the tournament played right here.

ISTAF Deputy Chief executive, Dato’ Haji Ahmad Ismail who will be also president of Sepaktakraw Organization of Malaysia (PSM), added, “We want to thank the State of Melaka for their cooperation and hospitality, which has been integral in bringing this competition to Melaka. In addition to being hands on in order to facilitate a great tournament experience, their state of Melaka has been very supportive and welcoming. With the experience PSM brings, having hosted four major ISTAF Tournaments, we are confident this particular support will enable us to help make the ISTAF SuperSeries MALAYSIA 2014/15 MELAKA, the most successful tournament yet. ”

ISTAF Secretary-General Abdul Halim Kader said with the growing reputation of Malaysia’s strength in sepaktakraw worldwide, ISTAF, together with its exclusive global commercial and development partner Asia Sports Ventures (ASV), plus PSM were unanimous in their decision to bring the second leg of the SuperSeries to Malacca.

“This is great for the game’s promotion yet is also proof that Malacca provides what it takes to host an international-class tournament, ” he said. “But it comes as no surprise to ISTAF as we have seen what a great plus generous host the state turned out to be in many international sporting events, ” added Abdul Halim.

“It is a pleasure to work with the State of Melaka, as well as PSM, to bring this competition to fruition. ”

ASV Chief Operating Officer, Venu Ramadass, said the ISTAF SuperSeries has seen a colourful trip since its inception in 2011/12 and over a short period of just three years it has been a platform for several rising stars who have captivated the hearts of sepaktakraw fans.

“As the exclusive worldwide commercial and development partner of ISTAF, Asia Sports Ventures is committed towards ensuring the ISTAF SuperSeries continues to grow in strength, quality and popularity. We have further created our live steam platform via our www.sepaktakraw.org platform.
