MYANMAR FACE LITMUS TEST IN ISTAF SUPERSERIES

NAY PYI TAW (16 OCTOBER 2014): The city of Nay Pyi Taw is geared up to welcome sepaktakraw’s marquee event while the Myanmar national team will face its first main test after the recent Asian Video games when they host the opening chapter of the ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15 from Oct 30 to November 2 .

The ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15 will see men’s teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, and China, alongside women’s teams from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan, Myanmar and Indonesia will converge with this new capital city of Myanmar to showcase their skills.

Thailand, who won both the men and women’s team gold medals within the Incheon Asian Games, are the defending champions in the regu division.

The Myanmar Sepaktakraw Federation (MSTF) signed a Memorandum associated with Understanding with the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) to host the ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15. ISTAF, along with its official commercial and developing partner, Asia Sports Venture Pte Ltd (ASV), have also made modifications in our format of the ISTAF SuperSeries this season.

Myanmar Minister associated with Sports, Tint Hsan, lauded the initiative taken by MSTF to sponsor the tournament as this augurs nicely for the development of the sport in the sponsor nation.

“Myanmar includes a long history in the sport associated with sepaktakraw and we are very proud of the progress made by the Myanmar men and women national teams. We are happy sepaktakraw is growing rapidly in Myanmar and we hope to participate in many international tournaments and continue to develop our groups. This is already an achievement alone, ” Tint Hsan said at a press conference to announce the ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15 within Nay Pyi Taw on Wed.

“We are very pleased to host the ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15 at the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium, which also played host to Sepaktakraw at the 2013 SEA Games. The stadium has been built specifically for sepaktakraw, and we are pleased to once again welcome the best groups in the world to compete in Nay Pyi Taw, ” he additional.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Sports, I would like to thank ISTAF and ASV for your trust and confidence in Myanmar hosting the first leg of the ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15. This certainly augurs well for the development of the game here and we look forward to it, ” said Tint Hsan.

He further stressed that the Myanmar men and women’s teams are currently schooling hard in the lead up to the ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15 and is confident they would perform far better than prior editions of the ISTAF SuperSeries, perhaps even claim gold medal in front of home fans.

The ISTAF SuperSeries 2014/15 will feature four tournaments. While the city of Nay Pyi Taw will host the starting leg, it will move on to Seoul (South Korea) for the second chapter.

ISTAF Secretary-General, Dato’ Abdul Halim Kader, said Myanmar Sepaktakraw Federation has the support of the Ministry of Sports and ISTAF have absolute confidence in their capability to organise for the first time the ISTAF SuperSeries MYANMAR 2014/15 and take the sport to the next level.

“MSTF has already identified spectacular facilities for your tournament, and ISTAF could not be happier to bring sepaktakraw to sites that have previously hosted the SEA Video games. Apart from Myanmar, Korea will also sponsor the ISTAF SuperSeries for the first time within their respective countries, ” said Dato’ Abdul Halim.

Venu Ramadass, Chief Operating Officer associated with Asia Sports Ventures (ASV), views it as a welcome step in ASV and ISTAF’s continued efforts to help enhance and develop the sport associated with sepaktakraw internationally.

He added that this marks the beginning of an amazing chapter this season.

“For the first time this elite tournament is usually held in Myanmar and it is component of our collective mission to expand sepaktakraw internationally. The SuperSeries system is progressing on all fronts, from one year to another and from one tournament to another, ” said Mr Ramadass.

“It also shows just how serious ISTAF, Asia Sports Ventures and other national organizations are about popularising the game, ” he added.
