SepakTakraw League – Grand Final Round!

Published on January 16, 2015 by   ·   No Comments

After nine awesome weekends of SepakTakraw League action in this, the inaugural period, the STL will return to Titiwangsa Stadium in Kuala Lumpur for one last weekend to see which group will take the ultimate Malaysian sepaktakraw name – it’s Grand Final time!

The Grand Final round this weekend (17 th and 18 th of January) will see the gold medal winners from each of the eight preliminary rounds combined with the top-eight teams from the Playoff Round last weekend battling this out for bragging rights and plenty of prize money. The final weekend may reward the top four teams very handsomely!

  • STL Grand Champions – 20, 000 Malaysian Ringgit (RM)
  • STL Runner’s Up – 15, 000 RM
  • STL Third Place – 10, 000 RM
  • STL Fourth Place – five, 000 RM
  • STL player of the season – 7, 000 RM

That’s a whole heap of cash up for grabs and it won’t be received easily as the sixteen best teams from this first season of the STL will be competing for it. That’s right, the absolute 16 best teams in the whole country, fighting it out for an enormous cash prize! Each of the grand final teams have proven themselves solid and talented, and it’s unattainable to pick a favourite for the title. Read through the list of teams and talent here and make your own mind up!

The player of the period award is sure to be a difficult decision to make for the officials and skill scouts who have attended every round of the STL, watching each match up intently and scribbling notes concerning the best players on show. They have a myriad of talented players to choose from, having an abundance of talented Malaysian nationwide and ex-national players competing.

Current young stars Khairul Zaman and Syahir Rosdi are impressive, but experienced players such as Farhan Adam and Fazil Asri are solid performers and that’s what the scouts will be looking for. There is also the chance the award could be handed to a player who hasn’t previously represented Malaysia – there are some playing this weekend so watch out for Muhaimi Che Bongsu and Nazmi Najib of ATM F, or simply Masran Rahman of PDRM Deb. There are countless candidates for the prize, so players coveting the name of STL’s best player will have to put in a stellar performance this weekend to impress the scouts.

The STL has travelled Malaysia with the eight preliminary legs viewing competition in Terengganu, Kedah, Johor and Melaka before heading to Kuala Lumpur last weekend for the Playoffs. It has been a long journey for the players and teams involved, but spare a thought for the organisers, officials, TV crews, statisticians, operations and setup crews, who have all worked tirelessly so that we can enjoy viewing world class sepaktakraw action from the convenience of our homes, on TV and reside internet streaming. Thanks to them, we’ve witnessed some incredible matches and talent, but this weekend it all comes to a massive finale and we get to see which team is that cut above the rest and will get crowned as champions of the SepakTakraw League!

This weekend, be sure to tune in to Astro if you’re in Malaysia or even check out www.stl.my for the reside stream coverage if you’re anywhere else!
