SepakVideo

Most people around the world haven’t heard of our sport, at least they don’t recognise the name. But if you describe it to them, plenty of people will reply along the lines of “Oh yeah, I’ve seen that, this looks amazing”!

Viewing is believing as far as sepaktakraw is concerned, and that is why video is so essential. Asia Sports Ventures is nicely aware of this, which is why live streaming of ISTAF SuperSeries matches had been introduced at the event in Myanmar a few months ago.

Indeed, sepaktakraw. org is a rich source of movies. Click on the VIDEOS link at the top of this site and you’ll find all sorts of videos to watch. The “Getting to know the players” series features plenty of the top sepaktakraw athletes telling us all types of things, ranging from where they would like to live in the world to which is their favourite cartoon!

You also have the “Introduction to Sepaktakraw” videos exactly where Aussie internationals Alex Newman plus Daniel Ellen-Barwell teach you the basic abilities of the game and how to improve technically and tactically.

Back again on the sepaktakraw. org home page, the streams from all four days of activity at the ISS Myanmar 2014 continue to be available. The same applies for stl. my – the website for the ASV-run Malaysian Sepaktakraw League which came to an exciting conclusion this past weekend. You are able to go there and watch all of the activity from the two finals weekends along with commentary in English, as well as video clip features in Malay.

And then of course we have youtube! ISTAF has its own youtube channel – https://www.youtube.com/user/istafsuperseries/videos – containing much of what is already on the sepaktakraw. org website but also other features and TV shows from past ISS events.

That’s the official channel, but there are many other videos out there from different sources. One that has been doing the rounds recently is the footage of System soccer star Santi Cazorla showcasing his skills with a takraw basketball – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQIn14Awg74 – he looks very good as a feeder to me!

Their counterparts from Bayern Munich aren’t quite up with the rules although – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc9ejC1yvQA – someone should inform them that the ball can’t be allowed to bounce and the net isn’t high sufficient! Nice roll spikes though plus some good setting on display!

And finally, maybe Wayne Rooney wish to change sports – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc9ejC1yvQA – think about him as England’s sepaktakraw chief!

As we can see, the planet is beginning to sit up plus take notice of “our” sport. Long may that continue.
