Things you probably did not know about the Swiss Open

Published on March 18, 2016 by   ·   No Comments

After seeing numerous reactions on Facebook about our own annual SWISS OPEN Tournament. All of us thought it would be nice to give you some insight on how a sport like this actually gets to this stage in Europe.

In Europe we have roughly 30 teams from about 6 countries (Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Belgium & England) that will regularly participate in the European Competitions. The sport started from a very small bottom. Many years ago our founders travelled to Thailand and saw this amazing sport, because it did not exist however in their home country they decided to begin their own club.
When the membership grew a little bigger and had contact with teams from different countries, the clubs started to organize small Tournaments. Everything was done from scratch in the early days. 14 years later on the tournaments has expanded yet we are still only able to arrange those events with all the voluntary assist of our members and a few sponsors. Only someone who has organized an event like this before knows how much work this is, yet guess what, it works. Because we all dropped in love with the sport Sepak Takraw, we all enjoy either playing or viewing it. We grew together just like a big international family. The clubs and teams support each other and enjoy playing together and competing. And everyone enjoys spending a weekend break with the Takraw family. Nobody will get paid for their effort, and everyone pays for the travel expenses to Tournaments.

The environment at our tournaments is great, which is why we keep promoting our own sport. We even have teams contending in Thailand at the King’s Mug. For us this sport is a hobby, all of us have a 100% job besides Takraw. So for us it is a good honour to be able to measure ourselves with all the great ones in Asia.

It is great to see your support from the other side from the world, that is also why we all decided to share with you our motivations. We hope Takraw Europe keeps the drive and continues attracting young talent that is motivated.

We want to use this chance to thank all our kind sponsors to help us each year in organizing this event. Thank you so much! The Takraw family truly appreciates your own contribution!

In Europe we have roughly 30 teams through about 6 countries (Germany, Swiss, France, Austria, Belgium & England) that regularly participate in the Western Tournaments. The sport started from a very small base. Many years ago our founders travelled to Thailand and noticed this amazing sport, because it did not can be found yet in their home country they made a decision to start their own club.
When the club grew a little bigger plus got into contact with teams from various countries, the clubs started to arrange small Tournaments. Everything was carried out from scratch in the early days. 14 years later the tournaments has extended but we are still only in a position to organize those events with all the non-reflex help of our members and a few sponsors. Only someone who has organized an event such as this before knows how much work this is, but guess what, it works. Because all of us fell in love with the sport Sepak Takraw, we all enjoy either playing or watching it. We grew together like a big international family.
